The Work of an Auto Insurance Claims Adjuster

Have you ever wondered what an auto insurance claims adjuster exactly does? Well, having a vehicle means that you have an auto insurance which will protect you against any liabilities or injuries you could sustain caused by an auto accident. It is important that you get to familiarize yourself on the nature of the job of an auto insurance claims adjuster so that you will understand why he would do the things that you would see him doing if you should have to go through the process of filing a claim.

Filing an Insurance Claim

Filing an insurance claim means that you have gone through an auto accident and that you need to claim your insurance benefit to get your car repaired for the damages. The usual process which you need to go through would be to contact your insurance provider as soon as possible after the incident. Assuming that no one was injured, then your focus would be to get your car repaired with the use of your collision coverage. Your comprehensive coverage can also cover you for auto repairs in cases when your car got damaged through non-collision events. These events may include fire, hail, storm, damaged by an animal, and more.

What happens after initial contact with your insurance claim?

When you contact your insurance provider you will be connected to the claims department who will then assign a specific claims adjuster to your case. Most of the time the adjuster would be working directly with your insurance company; other companies though may hire independent adjusters to assure customers of unbiased reports.

Once the auto insurance claims adjuster receives the claims assignment, he will contact you to arrange an appointment on when or where he could take a look at the vehicle for his assessment. After this, you will then receive a report from your insurance provider regarding the assessment made by the adjuster which would include the amount of money that would be needed to repair your vehicle.

Depending on the situation, behind the scenes the adjuster could actually contact a lot of people to enable him to accurately assess the accident and your vehicle. Aside from talking to you, he would approach possible witnesses on the accident which could include traffic enforcers, police, and hospital staff if you are also claiming for personal injury. He would also at times consult with other professionals such as accountants, construction workers, lawyers, physicians, and other professionals who could offer him expert evaluation of the claim.

Once the adjuster is convinced that your claim is legitimate, then he would contact local repair garages in your area to get an estimate on the parts and services needed to repair your vehicle. He will then submit a detailed report to your insurance provider regarding his final assessment which the company will relay to you.

When the damage to your vehicle exceeds the value of the vehicle the auto insurance claims adjuster can declare your vehicle a write-off. When this happens what you will get from your insurance company is the book value amount of your vehicle. The actual amount would vary depending on the age of your vehicle but most of the time the book value would be less than what you paid for the vehicle. With some auto insurance providers though, they provide an added option where you pay an extra premium for coverage to guarantee the full amount you paid for your vehicle if it has been written off within the first few years of purchase.

Often, the auto insurance claims adjuster will provide you options. Like whether you want your car to be repaired by certain repair shops or if you want cash settlement for the claim and get the car repaired yourself. Once you make the decision, the adjuster will make the necessary arrangements to get it done. For any kind of dispute regarding the report that has been submitted by the adjuster, you need to contact your insurance provider and coordinate with them. Always consider that the adjuster does not have an easy job and just like every one else, he is just making a living as well.

However, if you really can't work it out with your insurance company and your auto insurance claims adjuster, then don't hesitate to contact a personal injury lawyer. A great place to start your search is personal-injury-lawyer-guide.com, a website containing lawyer profiles of lawyers and companies in each state. Many work on a fee-for-success basis which leaves you without risk in trying to optimize the outcome of your insurance claim.

Fremont Hit-and-Runs and Drunk Driving Accidents Are Cause For Concern

The 213,000 residents in Fremont live in the largest suburb in the bay area, right outside of San Francisco. However, this doesn't change the fact that personal injury risks are part of the city's streets everyday.

Fremont, like all of California in recent years, has seen the rise in drunk driving car accidents and hit-and-runs. Accidents of these sorts seem to be an epidemic lawmakers and law enforcement are struggling to deal with.

In 2005, a driver under the influence of alcohol swerved and hit a Fremont police officer's car. The officer sustained minor injuries and the driver was arrested.

A more tragic accident occurred a couple years later when a 22-year-old study abroad student was pulled over with his broken-down Toyota on a Fremont shoulder of the Interstate 880. It was around 3:30 in the morning, when a driver in a Lexus came speeding toward the off-ramp and broadsided the student in the Lexus. Both cars slid 100 yards and the Lexus flipped on top of the Toyota.

It took Fremont firefighters 45 minutes to retrieve the victim's body from the wreckage. The Lexus driver had fled the scene in the mean time. Any Fremont hit-and-run attorney will stress the importance of being a reliable driver, obeying the speed limits and DUI laws, and being responsible toward your fellow drivers, especially if an accident has occurred.

A strange string of hit-and-run accidents took place in the bay area in 2006, raising the awareness of the Fremont and San Francisco communities that hit-and-runs are a serious issue. Around 14 people were injured or killed by a motorist who was seen deliberately running people down on the streets of San Francisco. A 54-year-old man had been run down and killed earlier in the day in Fremont, and the police linked the events.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, a police spokesman said the attacks in the city occurred at 12 locations over the duration of a 20-minute period. Witnesses recalled the driver, who held residents in Fremont, as "zombie-like", as if he had no fear of consequences.

Fremont Product Liability Issues are Cause for Concern

A Fremont auto body shop worker died in 2005 when he was crushed by a lift that collapsed. According to the Alameda County coroner, he was working at a Chevrolet dealership in Fremont. The 48-year-old worker died when the portable scissor lift collapsed on top of him. The lift had a car on it.

Fremont job accident attorneys are concerned that the company was at fault for not maintaining their equipment or that the lift was defective, a case of product liability.

Another instance of a product acting differently than it was expected to has resulted in the deaths of 140 people across the country, including a man in Fremont. A policeman was pursuing a suspect and shot him with a Taser gun between seven and nine times as the suspect attempted to escape over a wall. The suspect was taken to the hospital, where he seemed to be fine, and then inexplicably fell unconscious and died.

Taser guns are used by police to deliver a 50,000-volt jolt to stop a person with brief incapacitation. Taser guns are used instead of real firearms when the intent is not to kill the suspect, yet, in these instances people have been dying.

Products liability lawyers are unsure that the Taser gun is safe to use in cases where the shot is not meant to kill. The product malfunction may be the fault of the company that makes the Taser guns, or improper use of the guns by the police against suspects.
